  • Walk to School Month -May

    Fri 03 May 2013

    Walk to School Month

Our school will be taking part in Walk to School Month in May this year and we’d like all our pupils to try to get involved. We are encouraging everyone to Walk Once a Week at least in May and make a special effort to ‘Walk on Wednesday’ for the month. If you already walk to school please encourage others to do the same.

Here are some of the main reasons why walking to school when you can is a good idea:

    • Fewer cars at the school gate helps to make it safer for everyone and cutting congestion at school run time is good for the local area
    • Increased physical activity levels help to keep children healthy as well as being shown to improve alertness and achievement at school
    • Children who walk or cycle to school are more familiar with their local area, and have more opportunities to talk to their friends and members of the community. The walk to school is a great time to chat.
    • Walking, cycling & scooting are free and could help you to save around £350 a year!

If you need more information on cycling and walking or planning safe routes, please visit www.keepingcardiffmoving.co.uk or www.sustrans.org.uk.

  • Lateness

    Fri 22 Mar 2013

The Education Welfare Officer (E.W.O.) has raised concerns regarding the number of children regularly arriving for school after the bell has gone at 9.00 a.m.

After half term all parents must come into the main reception and sign the late register if their child arrives after 9.10 a.m.  This register will be monitored weekly by the E.W.O. and further action will be taken.

Looking forward to your usual support and co-operation.  Together we can improve pupils’ attendance at Glan-yr-Afon.
