Start and Finish Times

Our school day starts at 8.45am, and finishes at 3pm. Year 3 children enter through the main school doors and get collected from here, too! 

Snack and Lunch

Please provide a healthy snack for your children to enjoy during their morning break time.  We are currently running a ‘Snack Shop’ at break times at school, where children can purchase a piece of fruit or portion of soft cheese & crackers for 30p per day. Please provide your child with 30p each day if you would like them to buy snack from the ‘Snack Shop’.

Children also need to bring a labelled water bottle to school that they can refill throughout the day. Please avoid fizzy drinks or energy drinks.

Physical Education / Addysg Grofforol

Our PE day this year in Year 3 is a Wednesday.  Please can all children come to school wearing their PE Kits and trainers every Wednesday.

We hope to get the children outside as much as possible for their PE sessions so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

Reading

Reading at home with your child is absolutely vital. Just 5-10 minutes a day can make a world of difference. Children will have access Collins eBooks which is an online tool that allows the teachers to share books for the children to read at home. If you are having trouble logging in, please let Miss Sheedy know. We will also be reading with each child in the class at least once a week.

Children have taken home a book bag containing a reading book and a reading record. It is really important to record any reading you do with your child at home in their reading records so we can get an insight in to how they have got on.  Please return the book to school when your child has finished reading it so we can re-allocate a new book.

Topic 4- Spring 2-

A Fair World

During Spring 2, Our topic is 'A Fair World'. This topic has a Humanities, and Health & Wellbeing main focus.  We will be spending the next 5 weeks learning all about the ways we can be more sustainable and look after our planet by being Ethically Informed Citizens.  We will be focusing on FairTrade, and learning all about where our food comes from and how we can be Healthy, Confident Individuals.  We will be having a visit from Dwr Cymru as our Marvellous Middle who will be telling us the importance of looking after our water and only using what we need! The children will be participating in a range of Learning Experiences across the curriculum that revolve around our topic.

Topic 3- Spring 1-

Knights, Dragons and Castles

Our next topic of Year 3 is ‘Knights, Dragons and Castles!’. This topic has a Humanities main focus.  We will be spending 6 weeks learning all about the features of a Castle, different castles in Wales and comparing them to Castles around the World, Welsh Monarchs, Welsh Myths and Legends and looking at different periods of history. We will also be visiting Cardiff Castle as our Fabulous Finish at the end of the topic! The children will be participating in a range of Learning Experiences across the curriculum that revolve around our topic.

Topic 2- Autumn 2-

The Sky Above

As we continue our learning, our second topic is called 'The Sky Above'. For our Stunning Start we will be taking part in a VR Headset session where we will have the chance to explore virtual realities such as the inside of a spaceship and the Milky Way. 

We will be spending the next 7 weeks learning all about the sky above us, we will be looking at Bonfire Night, researching what things travel in the sky, forces, The Water Cycle, the different phases of the moon and lots more!

The children will be participating in a range of Learning Experiences across the Curriculum that revolve around our topic.

During Autumn 2, children will also have the chance to participate in Forest Schools. These sessions will take place on a Wednesday. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Keep an eye out for pictures and updates on our class seesaw and twitter page. 

Topic 1- Autumn 1-

Super Me!

Our first topic of Year 3 is ‘Super Me!’. We will be spending the next 8 weeks learning all about Fictional Superheroes, Real Life Superheroes (such as Doctors, Nurses, Emergency Services and so on), Welsh Heroes, and the children's own heroes. We will also be thinking about our special individual qualities that make us all Superheroes! The children will be participating in a range of Learning Experiences across the curriculum that revolve around our topic.
