Hello Everyone and Welcome to Dosbarth Caerfilli class page!

Class Teacher – Mon-Thursday – Mrs Williams Friday Miss Miller.

Teaching Assistants, Mrs Nazemi, Mrs Hubbard and Mrs Neale.

We are really looking forward to meeting all our new members and welcoming back our Reception children from last year as our Year 1.

We have some exciting Learning Contexts that we are focusing on for the next few months including Amazing Animals, Food Glorious Food, Superheroes and Celebration and Light.

Our first theme is Amazing Animals. We will be looking at all different groups of animals, what they are called, where they come from, what they like to eat and what their young are called.

Some of the books that we will be focusing on are ‘Brown Bear what do you see?’ and ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. We will be taking part in many exciting activities both inside and outside.

Class Information

At the moment with the Global Pandemic there will be some difference inside our class. All staff will be wearing a visor similar to the one in the photo. This is to help keep us all safe.

Our start time will be 8.45 and we will finish at 2.15

We will use the door from the car park that is to the right of the flagpole as you come into the school site. One of us will be there to greet you to show you the way in. Parents will not be allowed to enter the building for Health and Safety reasons.

Important Days to remember-

PE dayWednesday – On this day the children can come dressed in their PE kit. This is dark shorts and white T shirt. We are hoping to have lots of our PE sessions outside so please ensure that the children have suitable trainers and as we move into the Autumn weather then a dark tracksuit over the top may be useful. We will let you know when we will be starting PE sessions.

Reading – The children will take part in a range of reading activities during the week. They will come home with a book bag and a keyring of sight words that are really important that the children learn to recognise these. These book bags need to be returned daily in order that we can update these as the children develop.

Homework and Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and the children will need to learn these Keyword spellings by the following Friday. It is really important that the children practice these words. One of the best methods for this is the ‘Look, cover, write, check’ method. The children look at the word then it is hidden and then they try to remember the letters that make up these words and they write them. They then check what they have written.

Completed homework should be returned by Wednesday this is so that the work can be marked and the bags can be prepared to go home again on Friday.
